DANIEL CHANG

I walk walking to the corner I walked

Seattle, WA- Seattle Pacific Art Center Gallery is pleased to present a site specific sculptural installation by guest artist Daniel Chang. In his statement about the mixed media installation Chang shares “I walk walking to the corner I walked is an installation of text, embodied and dislocated in space and form. It is a meditation on the hollow between words on their way to form meaning. It is a reflexive narrative that attempts to hold the tensions of a past, a present, and a future- repeatedly re-contextualizing and disambiguating images of the self like the elusive capture of faith, wanting to hold and be held in the certainty of truth.”

Daniel Chang is a designer, illustrator, and educator based in Southern California. His practice is in conversation with contemporary visual culture, activated through the tools and language of graphic design. This engagement has allowed him to construct a platform which accommodates varying modes of communication, which are manifested through illustrated images, designed artifacts, crafted objects, and social interactions. He has worked with clients ranging from The New York Times, Random House, and Chronicle Books. His work has been published in Communication Arts, American Illustration, The Society of Illustrators, and Taschen. He holds an M.F.A. from the Otis College of Art and Design, an M.A. from Westminster Seminary California, a B.F.A from ArtCenter College of Design, and a B.A. from the University of California, Irvine.
